Empowering ZSPI Participants: A Seminar and Drill on Basic Life Support and Fire Safety
Basic Life Support and Fire Safety Seminar and Drill was conducted on March 19, 2026, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Zamboanga Sibugay Polytechnic Institute (ZSPI) function hall. The activity was facilitated by the fire officers from Kabasalan, aiming to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills in fire safety and emergency response.
The seminar began with an informative lecture led by SPO1 Jhon Dominique P. Bernardo, who discussed the proper use of fire extinguishers and how to maintain them to ensure effectiveness during emergencies. This was followed by FO1 Roberto Jr S. Genolos, who introduced the different tools and equipment used by firefighters. A short demonstration was also done, including the proper wearing of firefighters' gear.
In the afternoon session, FO1 Mark Adrian T. Dael discussed basic first aid, including the different types of wounds, burns, and fractures, as well as the proper application of various bandaging. This was followed by a demonstration conducted by FO1 Deanne Mark M. Saldivar and FO1 Arjie D. Labiano, who expertly executed manual carrying of injured individuals. Participants were then given the opportunity to practice the various manual carries, ensuring hands-on learning.
In a simulated emergency scenario, they demonstrated their competence by executing proper evacuation procedures and confidently operating fire extinguishers. Overall, the activity successfully empowered participants with essential life-saving skills, fostering a culture of safety and readiness within the ZSPI community.
